Lilly Ledbetter Omnibus News Conference March 20 at IPFW

FORT WAYNE,Ind. — Lilly Ledbetter, the final lecturer in the 2017–18 Omnibus Lecture Series season, will meet with members of the media on Tuesday, March 20, beginning at 4 p.m. in Kettler Hall, Room 154.

Ledbetter will present her lecture titled, Grace and Grit: How I Won My Fight at Goodyear and Beyond, at 7:30 p.m. in the Auer Performance Hall, located in the Rhinehart Music Center on the IPFW campus. Tickets for this lecture are still available.

After 19 years as a successful supervisor at Goodyear, Lilly Ledbetter suspected she wasn’t getting paid as much as male counterparts. When this was confirmed, she brought an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Complaint against Goodyear and won. The company appealed, however, and the ruling was overturned by the Supreme Court. This decision motivated legal groups and politicians and on Jan. 29, 2009, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act was the first act of Congress signed by President Obama — making it easier for women who have experienced pay discrimination to fight back.

Kettler Hall (marked as such on the campus map) is located on the south side of campus. Parking is available in Lots 4, 5, and 6, or Parking Garage 1, all located on the south side of campus.

Ledbetter’s lecture is one event the university will host to celebrate Women’s History Month.

The English-Bonter-Mitchell Foundation is the Omnibus Lecture Series sponsor. Media sponsors are WANE-TV NewsChannel 15, Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly, and 89.1 WBOI News and Diverse Music.
