Your Responsibilities as an Advisee
- Know the name of and how to contact your advisor.
- Contact the department secretary if your advisor is unavailable.
- Check your official IPFW university e-mail frequently.
- Familiarize yourself with IPFW and department policies and regulations.
- Understand program requirements for graduation.
- Make your own academic decisions based upon information from advisor.
- Seek academic help at first sign of needing assistance; your advisor can also refer you to other appropriate university resources.
- Prepare for your post-graduation future.
Your Advisor's Responsibilities to You:
- Post and maintain adequate office hours for advising.
- Communicate with students in a timely manner through IPFW e-mail and other appropriate means.
- Share knowledge of IPFW & department policies & regulations.
- Explain program requirements and document progress.
- Provide knowledgeable suggestions about realistic course load & selections.
- Refer students to IPFW resources, when needed.
- Discuss certification, licensing criteria, internships or co-ops.
- Help students connect curriculum to post-graduation goals.
