Radiation Safety

Serve as a liaison to governmental agencies for use of radioactive materials and radiation-producing devices.

Ensure that individuals use radioactive materials and radiation-producing devices in a safe manner, consistent with state and federal regulations.

Provide training programs for individuals using radioactive materials or radiation-producing devices, transporting radioactive materials using lasers.

Maintain records of authorization for use, procurement and disposal of radioactive materials.

Procure, receive and dispose of radioactive materials as appropriate.

Contact IPFW REM for radioactive pickups.

Perform periodic surveys of radioactive materials use areas to ensure that regulatory requirements are met.

• Calibrate survey instruments for laboratory use.
• Provide personnel dosimetry and bioassays when required.
• Respond to laboratory spills of radioactive material.
