AAMI creates a supportive environment for academic and social development for African American Males at Indiana University - Purdue University Fort Wayne.
Program Goals
- Assist African American males in the transition form high school to college through academic coaching, academic mentoring, and successful navigation of campus resources, services and facilities.
- Assist African American males in their academic and social development.
- Assist in the retention of African American males through the first year and persistence towards graduation.
Student Outcomes
- African American males will learn how to navigate IPFW campus resources, services and facilities.
- African American males will engage in academic and co-curricular activities.
- African American males will learn skills to manage their social development (motivation, advocacy, self-efficacy, self-esteem, etc.)
- African American males will make satisfactory progress towards degree completion.

Mission Statement: A peer-to-peer, minority enrichment mentoring program designed for male students to assist them in their navigation of the post-secondary experience through guidance, direction, and support.
Goals:
- Develop mechanisms to make male students feel more welcomed on campus, and provide them and increased sense of belonging.
- Develop a series of programs targeted for male students of colors to develop academic and social capital to support their marticulation at IPFW.
- Encourage mentorship by pairing interested male students of color with trained peer mentors.

About the Summit
The office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs (ODMA) is committed to the academic and social development of African American Males both attending IPFW and in the community. The Redefined 2012 – African American Male Summit will play an important role in developing young African American Males into great community leaders while providing an opportunity to strengthen their social development and empower their academic achievement.
The 1st Annual Redefine African American Male Summit’s theme is What is an African American Man? ODMA has worked long and hard to bring you an informative and empowering conference with topics focusing on the following: male identity development, entrepreneurship, relationships, academic achievement in the classroom, career development and additional topics. To accomplish this feat, we have selected a dynamic group of speakers from the city of Fort Wayne and state of Indiana. It is our hope that you enjoy this empowering conference and make changes that will move your life in a positive direction to achieve your goals and dreams.
