A student's first step toward academic success is to complete IPFW's New Student Orientation. It is mandatory that all first-year students who have completed fewer than 15 credit hours (not including credits taken in high school) participate in orientation, whether in person or online.
Through orientation, students will become familiar with campus, services, facilities and understand and recognize their rights and responsibilities in our IPFW community. Upon completion, students will understand the constructs of graduation requirements and successfully register for first semester courses at IPFW.
For more information regarding Online Orientation or On-campus Orientation, please visit click the links or visit the Student Life website.
The First Year Experience (FYE) exists to serve the greater mission of IPFW by bringing diverse groups of first-year students with similar interests together to study, learn, live, and build community through initiatives executed by faculty and staff committed to supporting the educational, developmental, and social needs of first-year students.
FYE makes it easier for you to find your way around, make friends and succeed academically. You will connect with other students, faculty, and staff through exceptional academic programs and an exciting campus life. For more information visit the FYE Web site.
The mission of the Academic Student Achievement Program (ASAP!) is to provide an early warning system that identifies students in need of academic intervention during that semester.
ASAP! provides academic coaching and midterm grade reports, and monitors student success. This allows the ASAP! Coaches to provide proactive academic coaching to improve performance in the classroom or connect the student to the many resources at IPFW.
For more information on ASAP!, visit their web page.
MAP-Works is a survey for IPFW freshmen. The results will provide the student, and IPFW, with customized information to help students get the most out of their first year of college.
Upon completing the survey, MAP-Works will provide students with an extensive, personalized report about:
- How to meet their college expectations
- How to be more successful in college
- What campus resources are available to help
