UTS Student Worker Application

The subject of the e-mail should be User Technology Support Tech - Student Worker.

In the e-mail, include the following:

• your full name
• your IPFW-ID number which can be found when you log into myIPFW
• a phone number and e-mail address where you can be contacted
• your major and class standing (freshman, sophomore, etc.)
• how many semesters you have remaining at IPFW
• an approximate idea of how many hours you can currently work per week
• the two assignments (below) attached

Assignments/ Application

These are mock assignments that will not be used as real publications for IT Services. Be as clear as possible, but try to keep the documents brief. Your audience may have a wide range of skill levels, so strive for providing a balance in the amount of detail you include. Complete assignments 1 and 2. File(s) should be attached as directed above in either Word or PDF format.

Be sure to include your full name in the header of each assignment you submit.

Assignment 1 - Documentation for Self-Service Solution

Create step-by-step instructions for any three of the following choices regarding Microsoft Word 2010:

• how to change the page margins to 1" each
• how to put a footer on each page that includes the page number, centered, with a different first page
• how to create a bulleted list
• how to insert clip art into a document
• how to use "Microsoft Office Word Help"
• how to single space paragraphs and remove space "before and after" paragraphs

Your documentation should be written for IPFW students, faculty, and staff with the intent to be used as a "self-service solution" available online. Documentation can include screen captures to demonstrate a step, but not required.

Assignment 2 - Content for Web Publication

Write an article about a Web 2.0 topic of your choice. Examples: twitter, blogs, wikis, facebook, YouTube, Second Life, Flikr, etc.

• Your content should be 2-3 short paragraphs describing the use of one of these tools in an academic setting. What is it, who would use it, why would they want to use it, etc.
• Limit the scope of your content to one topic.
• Try not to write as you would for an academic paper.  Write as though you are explaining to a friend in person.
• Be brief and to the point.

Your content should be written with the intent to be published as an informational web page on the IT Services web site. The intended audience is IPFW faculty or students.
