Freshman (Beginner) Admissions

FRESHMAN (BEGINNER) APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Students who have graduated or will graduate from secondary school but have not earned credits at a post-secondary institution should apply as a freshman (beginner) student. Students who have graduated from a secondary school and who have also earned credits at a post-secondary institution should apply as transfer students.

Requirements:

Completed Common Application:

Proof of English Proficiency:

Required for students whose native language is other than English. Official score reports from one of the following tests must be submitted directly to IPFW from the testing agency:

  • TOEFL (IPFW School Code: 1336): Minimum score: 79
  • IELTS: Minimum 6.5 Overall Band Score (scanned copy of score report is acceptable)
  • SAT (IPFW School Code: 1336): Minimum score: 25 Reading
  • SAT, prior to 05/2016 (IPFW School Code: 1336): Minimum score: 450 Critical Reading
  • ACT (IPFW School Code: 1217): Minimum score: 20
  • A Level First Language English: Minimum grade “C” or above
  • PTE Academic: Minimum score: 58
  • ELS Language Center: Completion of level 112
  • Students attending US High Schools:
English proficiency testing requirement may be waived if the last two years of regular (not ESL) HS English have been completed with grades of “C” or above.

Transcripts:

  • Secondary school transcripts may be uploaded through the Common App

Transcript Evaluation Report:



  • Required if student has completed any courses outside of the US
  • Type of transcript evaluation needed for courses completed outside of the US:
  • First-time freshman (beginner): Secondary School Course-by-Course Report with cumulative GPA and listing of all courses completed and grades received.

GPA Requirement:

  • 2.50/4.00 cumulative GPA from all secondary schools attended

Letters of Recommendation:

  • Not required. May be uploaded through the Common App, if desired.

Test Scores (SAT, ACT, etc.):

  • Not required for admission. May be used for verification of English proficiency and/or scholarship consideration.

Statement of Purpose:



  • Not required. May be uploaded through the Common App, if desired.

Transfer of IB, AP, A-Level Credits:

Scholarship:

     Requirements (any of the following minimum test scores):

  • SAT: 1800 (old SAT)
  • SAT: 1290 (new SAT)
  • ACT score: 27
  • TOEFL: 87
  • IELTS: 7.0

     AND

  • Minimum high school GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

     Scholarship Renewal: Up to 4 years. Student must maintain satisfactory academic progress while enrolled
