Each year, the IPFW Annual Fund contacts donors and potential donors in order to raise annual operating funds to support ongoing work and programs. In general, annual giving programs provide a steady supply of unrestricted money that can be used for scholarships, student aid, special services, projects, and supplies in many areas of need.
Who is solicited for an annual gift?
Anyone who is an alumnus or alumna of IPFW and anyone who has made a gift to a fundraising program are solicited annually by the Office of Development's Annual Fund.
What if someone does not want wish to be solicited by the University?
If someone does not wish to be solicited, the person should call the Office of Development at 260-481-6962 and speak with Paula Rice - Administrative Assistant and request that the University code the person's record for 'no solicitation'. Records can be coded to eliminate solicitations from a specific unit or the entire university.
For more information, please contact Jay S. Thayer, Assistant Director of Development at 260-481-6963.
An unrestricted gift is a gift to the University without a designation of how the gift will be used.
Restricted gifts, on the other hand, are earmarked for specific purposes such as a named scholarship, endowed scholarship, or building construction. Although both restricted and unrestricted gifts are welcomed, unrestricted gifts are of critical importance.
Why is unrestricted support important?
Gifts free of restriction allow each area on the IPFW campus to place resources where they are most immediately needed or where opportunities are greatest. Common uses of unrestricted funds include:
- scholarships

- modern technology
- an aesthetically pleasing campus
- responsive student services
- modern library
- numerous innovations in teaching and learning
Do company-matching gifts count toward donor recognition?
Yes. A matching gift counts toward recognition. For example, a donor who gives $500 and files a one-to-one company match claim within the same fiscal year is recognized for the full amount of both gifts. Refer to the Employer Matched Gift section.
