Tickets Available for Lily Ledbetter Omnibus Lecture at IPFW

FORT WAYNE,Ind.—Tickets are now available for the final lecture of the 2017–18 Omnibus Lecture Series season, featuring Lily Ledbetter, who will present her lecture titled, Grace and Grit: How I Won My Fight at Goodyear and Beyond. The lecture will take place Tuesday, March 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Auer Performance Hall, located in the Rhinehart Music Center on campus.

After 19 years as a successful supervisor at Goodyear, Lilly Ledbetter suspected she wasn’t getting paid as much as male counterparts. When this was confirmed, she brought an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Complaint against Goodyear and won. However, the company appealed and the ruling was overturned by the Supreme Court. This decision motivated legal groups and politicians and on Jan. 29, 2009, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act was the first act of Congress signed by President Obama—making it easier for women who have experienced pay discrimination to fight back.

The lecture is free to attend, but tickets are required. Tickets can be picked up in person Monday–Friday from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Larson Ticket Office, located inside the Athletics Center on campus. Tickets are also available online through the IPFW Box Office website. A $1 service fee will be charged per ticket for online orders.

Ledbetter’s lecture is one event the university will host to celebrate Women’s History Month.

The English-Bonter-Mitchell Foundation has been the Omnibus Lecture Series sponsor since 1995. Media sponsors for the 2017–18 series are WANE TV NewsChannel 15, Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly, and 89.1 WBOI News and Diverse Music.
