FORT WAYNE, Ind.—Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW’s) Chancellor Michael A. Wartell is the recipient of the Department of the Army’s Commander’s Award for Civilian Service.
The award was presented to Wartell for his “outstanding civilian service as a member of the Army Science Board from 1997 to 2011. Among his most significant contributions, he served as a Chair for the 2008 Persistent Communications, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Study and the 2004 Directed Energy Study. He also served on several more recent studies.” The inscription on the award goes on to say “…Wartell’s dedication and devotion to Army ideals, values, and mission enabled him to make a significant contribution in furthering national defense objectives. His outstanding service reflects great credit upon himself and the Army Science Board. His voluntary service is in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Army and the great Nation.”
Wartell is currently the chair of the United States Army Education Advisory Committee.
