FORT WAYNE, Ind.—A topic receiving a lot of recent attention is the debate over teaching creationism in public schools. Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne’s (IPFW’s) College of Arts and Sciences, the Department of Geosciences, and the Paleontological Society are proud to sponsor Paleontological Society Distinguished Lecturer Patricia H. Kelly, Thursday, February 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Science Building, Room 168. Kelley will present “Evolution and Creation: Conflicting or Compatible.”

Kelley will share her perspectives on the evolution-creation controversy from the perspective of one who is both a paleontologist and a person of faith. For the past 35 years, she has researched the evolution of coastal plain mollusks and taught Bible study at the churches her Presbyterian-minister husband has pastored. In this lecture, she will discuss why she accepts evolution as the explanation for the history of life and how she reconciles this explanation with her faith.

Earlier in the day, Kelley will deliver a more specialized lecture, “The Arms Race from a Snail’s Perspective: Evolution of the Naticid Gastropod Predatory-Prey System,” at noon in Science Building, Room 209.
