IPFW Partners with Keysight Technologies to Offer New Certification Program

FORT WAYNE, Ind.—Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) and Keysight Technologies are now working together to offer an RF (Radio Frequency) and MW (Microwave) Industry-Ready Student Certification Program to electrical and computer engineering students in the College of Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science.

Keysight Technologies, formerly known as Agilent, is an American company that manufactures electronics test and measurement equipment and software and has 70 service locations, including one in Fort Wayne.

Keysight will issue the RF and MW Certificates to industry-ready students who are approved by their instructors in courses that require the students to demonstrate RF/MW design and measurement expertise.

“The curriculum and labs at each university focus on the design, building, measurement, and analysis of RF/MW components to help students gain real-world understanding in design and measurement techniques,” said Todd Cutler, vice president and general manager of Keysight Design and Test Software.

Certification requirements include:

  • Passing the RF/MW design course and lab
  • Completing the required hours of Keysight EDA (Electronic Design Automation) design tools use
  • Completing the required use of Keysight instruments while learning key fundamentals for accurate RF calibration and measurement
  • Nomination by a university professor for certification
  • Passing a final hands-on test, demonstrating aptitude in the subject matter

“Students who earn these professional certificates will be attractive to employers right away,” said Abdullah Eroglu, professor of electrical engineering. “This is real-world experience through one of the world’s leading electronic measurement companies, and it’s not something just anyone can earn.”

There are currently 15 students in the program through the antenna design and simulation class. Students who earn an A in the class will be the first certificate awardees at the end of the fall semester, with the recommendation of the instructor.
