FORT WAYNE, Ind.—Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne’s (IPFW’s) College of Art and Sciences’ University Community Conversation (UC2) lecture series for 2013 has as its theme “The Nation.”
Tuesday, February 19, the topic of conversation will be “Hyphenated Americans: Immigration and American Identity,” a panel discussion moderated by L. Michael Spath from the Religious Studies program at IPFW.
Panelists scheduled to appear include:
- Saneta Maiko, Kenyan-American, executive director, Crime Victim Care of Allen County
- Ahmed Abdelmageed, Arab-American, College of Pharmacy, Manchester University
- Minn Myint Nan Tin, Burmese-American, Burmese Advocacy Center
Spath says the panel will discuss how American values and the American experience have influenced and formed recent immigrant experience and practice in light of the increased immigration from non-Western European countries in recent decades. They will also address how the new immigrants have re-shaped American identity and what it means to be an American.
The lecture is free and open to the public and will include time for questions from the audience.
