Employees Rate IPFW Best in Class

FORT WAYNE, Ind.—What do you think of Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) as a place to work? Do you like working at here? Why or why not? The university’s administrators and human resources office wanted to know the answers to these questions and wanted to get honest replies. In order to do that an independent consulting firm, HR Solutions, was brought in to administer the UMatter@IPFW Employee survey.

After the responses were tabulated, HR Solutions awarded IPFW its Best in Class Employer...Recommended by Employees citation. Rose Costello, director of human resources at IPFW, said, “HR Solutions found our Overall Satisfaction and Employee Engagement scores were within the top ten percent of their normative database.” Costello broke it down this way:

• 505 of 730 non-faculty staff took the survey, which is a 69 percent participation rate.
• Of those, 84 percent rated their over job satisfaction as favorable.
• 80 percent said their co-workers were like family and added to their overall job satisfaction.
• More than 50 percent said the benefits package and campus environment were main contributors to their overall job satisfaction.

As to how IPFW employees responded to questions about engagement Costello said:

• 28 percent said they were actively engaged; the national norm is 25 percent.
• 10 percent were actively disengaged; the norm is 16 percent.
