Selection committee and awarding of the scholarship
The Undergraduate Studies and Assessment Committee and the Graduate Studies and Assessment Committee within the Department of English and Linguistics will receive nominations from faculty for the Rainn Malis MacPhail Scholarship. The Committees will evaluate the nominations and choose the student based on faculty recommendations and continued student promise. Individual faculty members are encouraged to nominate students based on the above criteria. In years where both committees identify a superior candidate for the award, the department chair will select the candidate, with preference to alternating between graduates and undergraduate awards.
The amount of the award will be $1000 per academic year (to be disbursed in $500 increments in the fall and spring terms). Future award amounts may be increased, as determined necessary or available, by the Department of English and Linguistic and the donor/donor representative. The award will be administered by the department in conjunction with IPFW Financial Aid Services. Previous award recipients are eligible for additional awards if they are nominated and meet required criteria.
Gifts of support to the scholarship
Ms. Nancy Malis and her family have provided the initial funding of the scholarship. A scholarship fund account will be established to receive future gifts of support from the family, friends, and associates. As a named scholarship, it is intended to continue as long as there is suffcient funding to support the scholarship or is terminated by the donor in writing.
