Arthur L. Lucas and Cora Lucas Chestnut Scholarship

Students must:

• be Allen County, IN, residents who demonstrate financial need.
• Students must be admitted as a major in elementary education.
• Must be enrolled full time (minimum 12 credit hours)
• Submit the IPFW Common Scholarship application, and file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) so that it is received at the federal processors by March 10.

No scholarship will exceed the amount charged by IPFW for annual tuition.

It is the donor's wish that scholarships be awarded to those students who shall express a willingness and intention to restore to the fund the amounts received by them, and the donor intends that recipients will have a moral, but not legal, obligation to do so.

Betty Frato Scholarship

Student must:

• be a freshman admitted as a major in education;
• be an Allen County, IN resident;
• have demonstrated financial need.

Indiana Minority Teacher & Special Education Services Scholarship

The Minority Teacher Scholarship was created by the 1988 Indiana General Assembly to address the critical shortage of Black and Hispanic teachers in Indiana. Scholars may receive up to 4 scholarships (if funds are available) and may take up to 6 years to complete their certification program from the date of receiving their first scholarship.

Applicant must comply with the following:

• A minority student (defined as Black or Hispanic) seeking a teaching certification
• A student that is an Indiana resident and a citizen of the United States
• Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
• Not be in default on a state or federally sponsored student loan
• Must be an Education major – students who are “Education Pre-Major” or “Education Exploratory” are not eligible
• Student must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5

There are obligations connected with this scholarship. They include:

• Applicant is obligated to teach in Indiana on a full time basis for 3 out of 5 years following graduation
• Applicant is obligated to provide their current name, address and their employer’s name and address to the State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana (SSACI) during the obligation period

A scholar will be obligated to repay the full amount of the scholarship to the SSACI if applicant fails to:

• Fulfill their obligation to teach or practice in Indiana
• Complete the Teaching certification program within 6 year period
• Complete the Teaching certification program at all (i.e., drops out of the program)

Applications for 2012-2013 are filed online, and IPFW will be notified by the state that the application was received.   Applications must be completed by August 17, 2012.

Kyle J Reynolds Memorial Scholarship

Student must:

• be a full time undergraduate student
• be in the professional education portion of the Elementary Education degree program;
• minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated outstanding personal skills and character traits relating to academic achievement and learning, an attitude of service, and enthusiasm for teaching young children.

Scholarships may be renewed if the recipient continues to meet the eligibility criteria.

Gerald G. Szymanski Scholarship for Education

Criteria

Student must have completed a minimum of 30 credit hours and have sophomore standing or above and be either an undergraduate or graduate major in Education. Student must have earned an IPFW cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher for undergraduates, or an IPFW cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for a graduate student. This scholarship is awarded based on merit.

Ron Venderly Education Scholarship

Criteria

Student must be majoring in Education with preference given to students concentrating in Social Studies Teaching. A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is necessary as well as sophomore class standing or higher. The student must be a legal resident of Indiana.

Criteria

Adell M. White Scholarship

Criteria

Applicant must be a returning adult student, who is currently enrolled at IPFW. The applicant should have been out of high school five years or more (general non-traditional student). Applicants must be in good academic standing within their school, having a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better. Preference will be given to students majoring in education or teaching fields. Financial need will be considered in the selection process but is not a singular criterion. Applicant must demonstrate in their personality and work a high level of caring for others. Student must complete an Adell M. White Scholarship application.

Willis Family Scholarship

Criteria

Student must be majoring in Education. This scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit and financial need. Submit the IPFW Common Scholarship application, and file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) so that it is received at the federal processors by March 10.

Withers Scholars Grants

Criteria

Student must be majoring in:

• Elementary Education or
• History or
• Political Science or
• English or
• Communication or
• Theatre or
• Library Science

The student must have junior, senior or graduate class standing at IPFW the year of the award. The student must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. The student must enroll full-time each semester of the award (12-15 credit hours). File a Withers Scholarship application.

Public Policy Scholarships

Paul Helmke Public Policy Scholarship

Criteria

All students who will attain junior status at the beginning of the fall semester for which the award begins and who have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher, are eligible to apply. The award is based on merit. Preference will be given to those students who emulate the values of public and community service that have marked the career of Paul Helmke.

Bud Meeks Criminal Justice Scholarship

Criteria

Student must be majoring in Criminal Justice. Recipients are selected based on merit an demonstrated financial need. Submit the IPFW Common Scholarship application, and file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) so that it is received at the federal processors by March 10.

SPEA Outstanding Scholar Award

Criteria

Student must be an undergraduate or graduate student in the Division of Public and Environmental Affairs. The award is based on merit. Preference will be given to those students who have taken sufficient classes in the core and their concentration or major to demonstrate outstanding abilities in the field of public and environmental affairs.

Dr. C. James and Susan Owen Scholarship

Criteria

This scholarship is for students who are planning careers in public service. Both undergraduate students (who will have attained junior status by Fall) and graduate students are eligible to apply. The winner of the scholarship will be chosen on the basis of merit. In order to apply, students will need to fill out an application (available in the PEA Office) and submit it to PEA by the deadline date. This scholarship is administered by the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne.

William D. Perry, M.D. Memorial Scholarship

Criteria

Student must be pursuing a degree or certificate program within the College of Health and Human Services or in the Department of Public Policy, public health program. Awards will be based on merit. Student must enroll in a minimum of six credit hours. Selection of a recipient alternates between the College of Health and Human Services and the Department of Public Policy. For 2012-2013 the College of Health and Human Services will be selecting a recipient.
