The IPFW Computer Science Department endeavors to provide a dynamic learning community that promotes student achievement in computer science and attracts both top students and top employers. The department maintains close relationships with member of the community through the Professional Advisory Board, alumni relations, and K-12 outreach programs.
Computer Science and Information Systems at IPFW
The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts an increase in the demand for graduates with degrees in computer science and information systems. Our students explain, in this 6 minute video, why you should study computer science or information systems, and our degree options. Three of our departmental faculty members share advice for choosing your degree, and why IPFW’s ABET Accredited degree programs are so strong. Our students discuss what projects are like, and how they knew computer science or information systems was the best choice for their career goals.

Computer Science Student Awarded 2012 Summer Research Grant

Todd Welch, a senior pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, has been awarded a Summer Research Grant. This grant will be used to fund a research project to develop a mobile application specifically designed for IPFW. The mobile application will provide a variety of services for IPFW students, staff, and visitors. The application will consist of several mini applications; each providing a specific service. The services offered include providing assistance navigating campus, providing campus information, providing a useful calendar that syncs with a user's Blackboard account, and an application to keep a user's phone from ringing while in class. Todd will be presenting his results at the 2013 IPFW Student Research & Creative Endeavor Symposium.

IAV Center Proud to Host Lecture by Dr. David Chen

IPFW's Information Analytics and Visualization Center was pleased to host Dr. David Chen, who presented a lecture on "Patient-Specific Simulation through Medical Imaging Technology" Monday morning. Dr. Chen discussed technologies for creating patient-specific surgical simulations using computer graphics with haptic technology. This allows surgeons to experience a virtual, touch-responsive simulation with force-feedback. A video of the presentation can be viewed to the left (The video may require a minute to load).
Computer Science Faculty Receive Research Grant

Professors Robert Sedlmeyer, Beomjim Kim, and Britton Wolfe have received a $30,000 research grant from Raytheon via the Security and Software Engineering Research Center (SSERC) of the National Science Foundation. The goals of the project are to (1) develop a software platform for analyzing different information visualization options in a command and control (C2) application, and (2) use it to evaluate which of several options are most effective at helping users complete their tasks.
