IPFW to Host Grammy-Winning King’s Singers for High School Workshops

“IPFW to Host Grammy-Winning King’s Singers for High School Workshops”

Area high school choirs will have the chance to perform with one of the world’s most celebrated vocal ensembles on Monday, Oct. 31 at 4:30 p.m. at the IPFW Auer Performance Hall.  IPFW and the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir (IPFW Company-in-Residence), with support from First Presbyterian Music Series, will bring the Grammy-winning British a cappella group to campus on Monday, Oct. 31 for workshops with area high school choirs and singers.

Participating high school choirs will join in workshops with the group, as well as rehearse and perform a combined piece with them, along with some of their own choir’s music, in the hour-long workshop concert open to the public.  Anyone who has seen this group perform knows that it is an unforgettable experience.

IPFW’s Director of Choral Studies, Dr. Aaron Mitchell, is thrilled about the opportunity to bring singers together from area schools for the day. “We had set up workshops with the King’s Singers when I was working in Canada, and the impact on students was profound,” explained Mitchell.  “The group is just incredibly good, amazingly entertaining and flat-out brilliant.  They cross all boundaries in music and do it with impeccable skill and vitality.  Audiences love them because they perform such a wide variety of music--from Beatles to Madrigals--and are quite fun to watch.”

Anyone interested in attending the workshop performance at 4:30 p.m. may purchase tickets for $7 (adults), $6 (seniors), or $4 (students) at the Schatzlein box office in advance or immediately prior, and more information is available at www.ipfwchoirs.com.  High school choirs interested in participating in the full festival (10 am-5:30 pm) will be accepted as space is available, and should contact Dr. Aaron Mitchell at mitchela@ipfw.edu.
