Study Emphasis

The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program is designed for exceptionally creative students who are interested in pursuing a professional career in the field of visual communication and design. They must have demonstrated superior ability and motivation in a particular discipline.

During the first two years of classes, students complete the comprehensive studio foundation program, comprised of basic and figure drawing, digital imaging, color theory, visual organization in 2-D and 3-D design, and basic photography. This sequence is designed to provide conceptual depth, visual literacy, and development of fundamental technical skills germane to visual communication.

Majors must complete a thesis project in the elected area of concentration. This two-semester course requires a student to develop and organize a body of work demonstrating superior knowledge of design principles, confidence in handling media, intellectual engagement and a strong sense of individuality. The thesis project culminates in a B.F.A. exhibition that is judged by an external juror from a nationally accredited university and reviewed by the public. A well-articulated thesis statement is a requirement of the exhibition installation.
