Built in 1992 is home to the Department of Theatre. Seating 297, the Williams boasts a semi-thrust stage, state-of-the-art lighting, scene shop, costume shop, rehearsal/dance studio, dressing rooms and a collection of plays and theatre and dance videos. The theatre computer lab is included in the CVPA multimedia lab in the adjacent Visual Arts Building.
Studio Theatre was the department's performance space until construction of the Williams Theatre. An experimental black box space seating 150, the theatre is located in Kettler Hall. Studio Theatre recently experienced a $250,000 renovation that includes features making it one of the most up-to-date theatres in the region to accommodate the creative design of students and faculty.
Library
The department maintains a collection of books, musical scripts, scores and videos, available for use by theatre students and faculty. Books and scripts may be signed out for limited loans of a specified duration with a faculty signature only. Library sign out forms are available through the department secretary. Please note that musical scores and video materials do not circulate.
Exciting Features for Patrons with Disabilities
The IPFW Department of Theatre continues to offer a variety of barrier-free services at both theatres such as accessible, close-in handicapped parking and spacious lower level seating for patrons. We also offer:
Sign language interpreter services during all Thursday night performances in Williams Theatre.
We offer the SoundMate® Personal Listening System, an assistive listening devices in the auditorium for patrons with hearing loss.
