  • Arizona State University, 2008, Ph.D.

Other Information

Dr. Soule's interests include microbial diversity, microbial ecology, and molecular microbiology. In particular, she is interested in the cyanobacteria (phototrophic bacteria) and their tolerance to UV radiation. To protect themselves from harmful UV rays, some cyanobacteria are capable of producing sunscreens under conditions of increased UV exposure. Dr. Soule studies a class of those sunscreens and the molecular mechanisms by which cyanobacteria are able to produce them in the environment.
