Dominican Republic Mission Trip 2012
The tradition continues as four IPFW nursing faculty, 11 undergraduate and five nurse practitioner graduate students traveled to the Dominican Republic, March 3-10, 2012 to give care to the residents of Cien Fuegos. This year, three dentists, one dental hygiene faculty, and two dental hygiene students accompanied the team to apply fluoride and provide restorative dental care to the residents.
Community health nursing students completed surveys that included obtaining information about demographics, water supply and general health assessments. Medical Students from PUCMM and the nursing students will collaborate to use the data to better meet the healthcare needs of this region. Approximately 1300 patients were cared for during this week long mission trip.

Dominican Republic Mission Trip January 2011
Three IPFW Nursing faculty and 9 graduate students traveled to Santiago, Dominican Republic in January 2011. They went as part of the Barnabas Task, whose goal is fresh water, health education and micro-finance. The goal is to provide health care at a mobile clinic. A needs assessment was done while we they were there, including the community and community leaders. Upon return, the students will analyze the data, and as their capstone project, will design a self-sustaining patient education program, that will be given to the community for future use.
