Prerequisite and Preferred Admission Courses
Curriculum Sequence (Bingo Sheet)
All prerequisite courses must be completed by JUNE 1 with a grade of "C-" or better.
Applicants must meet with a Dental Assisting Program Advisor
Prerequisite Courses for the class starting fall 2013:
- COM 11400 — Fundamentals of Speech Communication (3 cr. hrs.)
- ENG W131 — Elementary Composition I (3 cr. hrs.)
- NUR 10600 — Medical Terminology (3 cr. hrs.)
- PSY 12000 — Elementary Psychology (3 cr. hrs.)
Other Prerequisite Course Requirements-
Must pass all prerequisite courses with a grade of "C-" or better
If you are receiving any grade below a "C-" in any course, withdraw from that course before the Deadline Withdraw Date (see the Schedule of Classes for the exact date each semester). Then, complete the course again next semester.
Students may repeat required courses only one time. However, the second grade MUST be used to calculate prerequisite GPA.
All prerequisite courses must be completed by the end of the Spring semester for the year in which you are applying.
- Must have a minimum prerequisite GPA of 2.5
- Must also have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
Preferred Admission Courses:
- BIOL 20300 — Anatomy & Physiology I (4 cr. hrs.)
- BIOL 20400 — Anatomy & Physiology II (4 cr. hrs.)
- DAST A122 — Introduction to Dentistry (1 cr. hr.)
Current alternative Biology courses: Ivy Tech's APHY 101,
APHY 102 & APHY 201 (must take all 3 courses from Ivy Tech for them to fulfill DAST Biology requirements). If you complete these 3 classes, you will be exempt from A111 Anatomy & Physiology while you are enrolled in the Dental Assisting Program.

The grading percentages in the Department of Dental Education are more difficult than other university departments due to the skills & responsibilities required for employment in the healthcare field. Grading Scale:
100 – 94 = A
93 – 88 = B
87 – 80 = C
79 – 75 = D
74 and below = F
