The undergraduate B.S.Ed. in elementary or secondary education is intended to prepare students for successful careers as teachers of children in preschool through grade 12. The elementary degree is intended for those who wish to teach in general elementary grades K-6. However, the program is structured so that many other areas can be added, such as early childhood, middle school, and special education. The secondary education degree is divided into two concentrations: middle school generalist (5-9), and middle school/high school (5-12). Students must choose one or both concentrations to complete the degree. Upon satisfactory completion of the program, students with the 4-year B.S. degree in elementary or secondary education are eligible to apply for an Indiana teaching license through the Indiana Department of Education
IPFW also offers teacher education programs in the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Visual and Performing Arts. For a complete list of academic programs that lead to teacher certification, click here.
