Policies

Student Responsibility

You are responsible for satisfying the graduation requirements for your selected program. It is essential that you develop a thorough understanding of the required courses and policies. All requests for exceptions to specific requirements must be made in writing and may be granted only by written approval from the appropriate department chair.

Academic Renewal Option

Doermer School of Business participates in the Academic Renewal Option for eligible students returning to IPFW after an absence of five or more years. Information about this option appears in Part 7 of the Bulletin.

Maximum Enrollment

Maximum enrollment per semester is 21 credit hours. If you wish to enroll in more than 17 hours you must have reached sophomore standing, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and have the permission of your academic advisor.

Pass/Not Pass Grades

You may take up to two courses per semester for a grade of NP/P with a maximum of two such courses each year. You may apply a maximum of 12 credits of pass/not-pass grades toward a bachelor’s degree or a maximum of 6 credits toward an associate degree. Pass/ no-pass is not acceptable for any required course, only free electives.

Credits for Self-Acquired Competency

Doermer School of Business does not award experiential credit. Credit awarded on this basis, regardless of its source, will not apply toward an IPFW business degree.

Academic Probation

You are on academic probation upon completion of a semester or summer session in which you fail to earn a semester GPA of 2.0 or higher or your cumulative GPA falls below a 2.0.

Academic Dismissal

If you have been admitted to one of the majors in the BSB program, you will be dismissed from the degree program immediately upon completion of a semester or summer session that results in your cumulative GPA falling below 2.0

Application for Graduation

At least two weeks before you register for your final classes that will complete your degree requirements, you must notify the school of your intention to graduate. You will need to set up an appointment for a degree audit with your advisor and also fill out the online graduation application located on the registrar’s office Web site.

Additional Policies for Associate Degree

Your final 15 consecutive credits must be completed at IPFW after you have been admitted to the AS program. You are allowed four calendar years to complete the AS degree. If it takes you longer than four years, you will be required to meet the degree requirements specified in the most current IPFW Bulletin.

Additional Policies for Bachelor’s Degree

• Students in the BSB program must complete the final consecutive 30 credit hours at IPFW after you have been formally admitted to the program. No BUS, ECON, or OLS courses may be used to meet General Education requirements. At least 50 percent of required business and economics courses must be completed at IPFW.
• You must complete the BS degree within five calendar years of your admission to the BS program. As long as you work on the degree continuously you may follow the degree requirements of the Bulletin from the year in which you were admitted. If you sit out for a period of one calendar year, when you return you will have to follow the requirements in the most current IPFW Bulletin. If you take longer than five years from your admission to complete the BS requirements, your file will be reviewed and you may be asked to take over any courses where the content is considered to be out dated.

Transfer Credits

• Courses in basic business and economics subjects (freshman & sophomore level) will be accepted as equivalent only if they are transferred from regionally accredited institutions.
• Courses in advanced business and economics that you have taken at another school during your freshman or sophomore years generally will not be accepted as equivalent to business or economics courses that are available to only juniors and seniors at IPFW.
• Courses in advanced business and economics that you have taken as a junior or senior within the last four calendar year will be considered equivalent only if the business degree program from which they transfer is accredited by the International Association for Management Education (AACSB).
