Lecture Series Presents IPFW 2011 Featured Faculty

Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) professors create knowledge. Each year IPFW identifies several “Featured Faculty” to honor teachers whose outstanding research has contributed to the sciences, the arts, the humanities, and society.

This year’s IPFW Featured Faculty are William DeMott, professor of biology; James Moore, associate dean, Doermer School of Business and professor of management; Hosni Abu-Mulaweh, professor of mechanical engineering; and Hedayeh Samavati, professor of economics.

At the 2011 IPFW Featured Faculty Lecture Series the four professors will present their award-winning research. The lectures are at noon on the second floor of Helmke Library, each Friday in February. The lectures are free and open to the campus and community. A simple lunch will be provided; reservations are not required.

• February 4: William DeMott, professor of biology, will present “Life, Death, and Evolution in Plankton Food Chains.”
• February 11: Hedayeh Samavati, professor of economics, will present “The Economics of Crime: Robbing a Bank?”
• February 18: Hosni Abu-Mulaweh, professor of mechanical engineering, will present “Energy Applications for Daily Life.”
• February 25: James Moore, associate dean, Doermer School of Business, and professor of management, will present “Data Mining: Good Science or Black Magic?”
