Bachelor of Science in Business with a Management or Marketing Major

Once you have been accepted into the Doermer School of Business advising and course registration will be done by Susan Byers, Director of the Business Student Center.

Upon meeting the requirements for admission to the Bachelor of Science in Business program you may declare your major in either Management or Marketing.

The Department of Management and Marketing awards degrees for the Bachelor of Science in Business with majors in either Management and Administration, or Marketing.

Management and Administration

Managers are needed in all organizations – big or small, manufacturing or service, for profit or not-for-profit. To create and/or run a successful business in the twenty-first century, leaders and managers must be equipped to tackle many difficult challenges. The management and administration concentration provides would-be managers with an opportunity to study a broad scope of business and economics subjects, as well as concepts and theories of managing complex business operations in a dynamic environment of technological and social change, global competition, workforce diversity, and increasing social demands. The courses offered stress goal setting, planning, controlling, and problem solving in the context of major business firms in a global environment.

Marketing

The marketing function touches all aspects of an organization and helps to shape and direct its corporate strategy. It starts with understanding the needs and wants of a firm's customers, continues into the development of new products, and determines how a firm communicates with customers about its products. The marketing area concentration may lead to, or help advance, a business career in advertising, marketing, promotions, public relations, or sales. The concentration encompasses such topics as consumer behavior, product development, pricing, channels of distribution, promotion, marketing research, and effective management of corporate marketing operations.

The Associate of Science in Business (A.S.B.) administration is a preprofessional degree. The academic program leading toward the degree helps you prepare for careers at the operational level of business.
