Average annual wage data is compiled from reports submitted by employers subject to state and federal unemployment insurance laws. This excludes workers on most agricultural farms, all members of the Armed Forces, elected officials in most states, most railroad employees, most student workers, and employees of certain non-profit organizations. Workers on paid vacation and part-time workers are included. Therefore, the average pay is influenced by the percentage of part-time workers versus full time workers, the number of "executives" versus "hourly" employees, etc. The data shown has not been adjusted for inflation.
