Admissions Classifications

There are four classifications for current high school students or individuals who have graduated high school less than two years ago. Admissions requirements vary based on your classification.

• Admission to a Major with Recommendations
• Conditional Admission to Mastodon Advising Center
• Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne—Ivy Tech Crossroads Program
• Admissions Appeal Process

Note: If you have been out of high school for more than two years, you would be considered an Adult Admit.

Regular Admission to a Major

High School Class Rank

• Class rank between 100^th and 50^th percentile and a cumulative GPA greater than 2.8

Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) I/American College Testing

• SAT or ACT (writing, recommended but not required) scores are required for recent high school graduates
• 1420 score on the SAT and minimum score of 450 on each section
• 20 score on the ACT and minimum score of 19 on each section

Note: Engineering students must have a minimum score of 480 (verbal) and 520 (math) on the SAT I or 21 (English) and 23 (math) on the ACT.

Academic Units

• Indiana Core 40, Academic Honors, or Technical Honors Diploma
• Applicants for the engineering programs must have taken chemistry and math through trigonometry
• Out-of-state students must complete a college prep curriculum

Indiana End of Course Assessments

• Indiana applicants must have passed the End of Course Assessment (ECA) Exams

Admission to a Major with Recommendations

High School Class Rank

• Class rank between 49^th and 35^th percentile and a cumulative GPA between 2.79 and 2.4

Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) I/American College Testing

• SAT or ACT (writing, recommended but not required) scores are required for recent high school graduates
• 1320 score on the SAT and minimum score of 400 on each section
• 18 score on the ACT and minimum score of 17 on each section

Academic Units

• Indiana Core 40, Academic Honors, or Technical Honors Diploma
• Out-of-state students must complete a college prep curriculum

Indiana End of Course Assessments

• Indiana applicants must have passed the End of Course Assessment (ECA) Exams

Conditional Admission

Conditional admission serves students who do not qualify for regular admission and who would benefit from the extra attention offered by the Mastodon Advising Center (MAC). Professional advisors in MAC provide information and direction toward special programs, sound academic skills, and tutorial services.

If you’re admitted conditionally, you’ll work closely with advisors to help reach your educational goals. You’ll be required to report your academic progress to your advisors, who can help identify any support services that you may need.

• Class rank between 34^th and 20^th percentile and a cumulative GPA between 2.39 and 2.0

Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) 1/American College Testing

• SAT or ACT (writing, recommended but not required) scores are required for recent high school graduates
• 1120 on the SAT and minimum score of 380 on each section
• 16 on the ACT and minimum score of 15 on each section

Academic Units

• Indiana Core 40, Academic Honors, or Technical Honors Diploma
• Out-of-state students must complete a college prep program

Indiana End of Course Assessments

• Indiana applications must have passed the End of Course Assessment (ECA) Exams

Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne—Ivy Tech Crossroads Program

Students who do not meet the above requirements are not eligible for admission to IPFW, but are recommended to the IPFW—Ivy Tech Crossroads Program.

Admissions Appeal Process

To appeal an admissions decision the applicant must submit a written statement to the Admissions Appeals Committee explaining how, regardless of past academic record, he or she is prepared to be successful in university studies. The statement must be typed and no longer than one page. Student name, mailing address and contact information should be included. The decision of the committee will be sent in writing and is final.
